Personal Appearances Some mementos from 2008 |
YORK - March 2nd James cooked up something special for Mothering Sunday when he appeared in Clifton Moor as part of a weekend of celebrations marking the opening of Wilkinson’s 300th store. |
BINGLEY - March 21st James was guest of honour, on Good Friday, at the official opening of Bingleys’s new Market Square. He and Bradford’s Lord Mayor, cut the ribbon to celebrate the realisation of the town’s eight-year dream.
During the day James gave two demonstrations and a book signing, but still found time for a walkabout among the forty stalls, set up by local producers, in the new outdoor Fine Food Market. |

MELTON MOWBRAY - April 6th A return visit to the cattle market and our chef’s demos were by far the biggest draw of the weekend. Stallholders were disappointed when Saturday proved not to be as busy as organisers had expected.
Numbers improved on Sunday when crowds filled the cookery theatre and extra security had to be put on the doors to stop more people squeezing in to see James! |
KETTERING - April 30th This was something different from the usual James Martin event. No cooking, just James spending the afternoon at the newly refurbished Conference Centre, first in the Business Showcase and later in the ‘theatre’ where he shared his experiences as a chef, both on and off camera, before taking questions from his audience. Congratulations to TWC Events for getting the man himself on a stage with no props, just his experiences and his humour. Lets hope other event organisers will have the courage to do the same! |

GF SUMMER SHOW - June 11th & 15th James wowed the NEC crowds as usual with three demos on each of two days. |
SHEFFIELD - Aug 14th Shoppers at Meadowhall’s Oasis food court were entertained by James’s as part of their food and drink week. He shared his kitchen know-how in three short demos designed as a series of taste tests, and aimed at encouraging people to try something new. A very welcome, but rare, chance to tuck in to some of his demo dishes! |
SHREWSBURY - Aug 16th On a very wet Saturday visitors to the Flower Show were treated to beautifully presented show gardens and quite enviable fruit & veg displays, all to the sound of brass bands playing.
James gave a series of demos in a 100 seat theatre, created in a specially extended food hall and was chosen to announce the Shropshire Star Golden Couples A firework display rounded of the day. |
STONELEIGH - August 23rd & 24th We’re told that this year’s Stoneleigh Park Country Festival, which marked the start of resurrecting the Town & Country show that it replaces, resembled a huge village fete. James was their ‘Special Celebrity Guest’ for two of the three days, giving a series of demos, each of which filled the food hall with more than 500 people. He cooked a variety of dishes from fish to desserts using produce from some of the exhibitors. His comment? “It’s good, it’s got everything I like about it, it’s not just the agricultural side, I can have a look at the classic cars as well while I’m here.” |

Alpha Male stands out in a crowd! |
SPALDING - Sept 7th Two sessions of an event billed as ‘In the Company of James Martin’ helped to launch the multi-million pound extension of Springfields outlet shopping centre. In a marquee next to the brand new Travelodge hotel, the 500 strong audience for each show enjoyed cooking demos combined with Q & A sessions and the chance to win prizes including items from Denby’s new James Martin range. We’re told that James was “hugely popular”, “very down to earth” and “a really nice bloke” - but then we knew that already! |
